They say that it is the photographer that creates the pictures and the camera that captures it. But in order to do that it is important to understand how your camera equipment works to its full potential.
Lately I have made a lot of book reading about photography, and I want to share a book tip for you guys/girls that want to learn more about photography.
The name of the book is ‘Fundamentals of Modern Photography’ and it is written by Tom Ang.
I did not start my career with a 6 term photographic education and that way it is easy to miss small Fundamental techniques that’s very important in order to evolve as a photographer.
They say that it is the photographer that creates the pictures and the camera that captures it. But in order to do that it is important to understand how your camera equipment works to its full potential.
It is also good to have a basic understanding why you pay 2,300 buck for a lens that have the same size aperture and focal length as a lens that costs 799 buck. Do not get me wrong, the understanding of composure is still far more important but I believe that you need to understand the gear you are working with. The good thing about this book is that you get both understanding of your gear, and understanding what effects different techniques creates in your pictures. Tom also explains how you take advantage of that when you are photography.
The book is 350 pages and covers everything from What photography is, Fundamentals of Light, The Camera, Capturing Light, Using the Lens, Manipulating Light, Working with Color, Processing the Image, Digitizing the Image, Outputting the Image. It also have some nice reference pages that helps the reader understand different Defects that cameras and lenses have, Tom shows for example how Moiré looks in a picture. For you guys/girls that do not understand English 100%, like me, it is good to have a dictionary at hand. The text is small in the book but contains a lot of pictures, I have not read many books in my life and I thought it was easy to read. The book covers both digital and analog cameras techniques.
I had a lot of ‘wow’ experiences when i read this book, and i encourage you to buy it if you want to know the most important and fundamental stuff about gear and techniques.
You can get it at Amazon for 25 buck, or for you Swedes at Adlibris for 237kr.
